Arghh... well, I haven't maintained my primary blog that was at perryandrews.com. I've neglected it for various reasons...but it WILL return someday in the near future. In the meantime, I will use this blog to post random things.

So...one day last week when I got to work...

Ok I'll warn you, this might be anti-climactic, as even I am not sure how it turned out, but it was interesting anyway. I park in the back and get out of my car...well, first I will describe the scene a bit. There are some apartments in the neighborhood behind our building, and a small supermarket/shopping center across the street (a busy street). It's well known that ALL kinds of people live in the apartments back there. Some good folks, some shady folks, and some that are probably just bad. One day I'll write about the weird old bastard that looks similar to Joe Paterno....but that's another story.

So back to this day last week, and I arrive at work and park my car. I get out and start walking towards the back entrance when I see a pretty young lady with a baby in her hands, walking toward our back parking lot, but she turns and keeps going straight when she sees me. I could tell she was crying, or had been crying. She obviously wanted to avoid people, so I just stood outside by the sidewalk to finish my cigarette. I noticed the girl kept walking down the sidewalk and went into a little alleyway cut out in a cinder-block storage building. The alleyway she went down is only approximately 8' feet deep, and 7' feet tall, maybe 5' feet wide...with no exit. It's just a cut-out slot in a cinder-block building, but there is a bench to sit down on in this cut-out/slot/alley thing.

So anyway, the girl went back into that area and sat on the bench, out of my sight and out of the sight of anyone that might be looking for her. About this time, I notice three police cars in the parking lot across the street, they were all together and driving slow, obvious to me they were looking for someone. Sure enough, as I'm standing out there finishing my cigarette, one of the cops drives up towards me and asks if I've seen the girl with a baby walk by. Now, I haven't always gotten along with police officers, and I don't want to snitch on someone for something that might be minor....BUT, th is girl was obviously distraught, and had a baby with her... So I kind of acted like I didn't hear the officer ask me, but I looked directly towards the area the girl was, so the officer understood and he drove on past and spotted her sitting on that bench in the alleyway.

I went on inside to work and to tell everyone that there might be some drama going down out back. A few of us went out there to look, and by this point the girl was standing on the sidewalk, on the passenger side of the police car. She was still holding her baby in one arm, and using a cellphone with her other hand. The police officer was still in his car, just talking to her. They both seemed calm, other than the girl being upset and obviously having a bad day.

It will be a mystery as to what was going on, because I didn't get a chance to go back outside and follow up on it.

Overview: the astronauts perspective.

If you'd like more information about CONTINUUM and how you can support & even pre-order the film, check out: http://www.continuumthemovie.com.

On the 40th anniversary of the famous ‘Blue Marble’ photograph taken of Earth from space, Planetary Collective presents a short film documenting astronauts’ life-changing stories of seeing the Earth from the outside – a perspective-altering experience often described as the Overview Effect.

The Overview Effect, first described by author Frank White in 1987, is an experience that transforms astronauts’ perspective of the planet and mankind’s place upon it. Common features of the experience are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.

‘Overview’ is a short film that explores this phenomenon through interviews with five astronauts who have experienced the Overview Effect. The film also features insights from commentators and thinkers on the wider implications and importance of this understanding for society, and our relationship to the environment.
